Why Do Soda Stream Bottles Expire?

I love bubbly water but it feels such a pain in the b*tt to buy it in a store. A lot of plastic waste, a lot of effort. Thankfully, SodaStream provides a great solution. All I need is to exchange the Co2 gas cylinder and keep an eye on the bottle’s expiry date. Yeah, that’s a thing. And “why do soda stream bottles expire”, you ask? I didn’t know so I tried to research and this is what I found out.

I’ve been using a SodaStream Terra (Black) for quite some time now and couldn’t be happier with it.

It’s a very convenient home carbonation device. We can make sparkling water and soda at home whenever we fancy.

The machine is super easy to use. With the press of a button, it carbonates water. It just adds carbon dioxide to it, which creates bubbles and makes the water fizzy.

It’s optional to add flavoring syrups or fresh fruit to it and create our very own flavored sodas or sparkling water.

It has definitely saved me a bunch of money and made my plastic footprint a bit smaller. Also, I can control the amount of sugar I have in my drinks! Win!

The fact that the SodaStream bottle can expire is just a tiny thing to get over with. Just like the gas cylinder, I need to replace the bottle too, from time to time. I didn’t know the science behind it though.

Why Do Soda Stream Bottles Have An Expiration Date

The reason why SodaStream bottles expire is that the plastic can become brittle and start to degrade. They are pressurized with carbon dioxide frequently, so no wonder they wear out. Do soda stream bottles go bad, it this what it all means?

Well, yes, after the expiry date, the bottle can crack or break when you try to put the bubbles in.

So, that’s why it’s important to replace a SodaStream bottle before they expire. An expired bottle is not just a risk for loss of carbonation, but a legit safety hazard too.

Do SodaStream Bottles Really Expire

Yes. You can check the expiration date on the SodaStream bottle, typically printed on the bottom (mine is having it now on the body of the bottle).

The lifespan of a SodaStream bottle (any water bottle, really) depends on how often it’s used and how well it’s taken care of. If you make sure it’s always used, cleaned, and stored properly, it can last for years.

Cheers!
