I changed the original straw lid to an alternative, not official Hydro Flask product, but other than that, the brand made me a fan for life. I’m very satisfied with my 24 oz Standard Mouth.
All The Nitty Gritty
Capacity
24 fluid ounces (oz). A standard glass of water is typically considered to be 8 oz. Therefore, a 24 oz water bottle would be equivalent to 3 standard glasses of water. Individual hydration needs can vary based on factors such as age, sex, weight, activity level, and climate. It’s best to listen to your own body (or consult with a healthcare professional for personalized recommendations) to stay adequately hydrated. I fill my 24 oz bottle three times a day, and it keeps me rollin’ just fine.
Weight
11.28 ounces (320 grams). To compare, a 25 oz tritan plastic water bottle can weigh only 0.361 ounces (10 grams). Consider the additional weight of the water in it too. If you travel / backpack light, you might want to look further.
Dimensions
‎2.8 x 2.8 x 10.8 inches. It’s not as bulky as the bigger Hydro Flasks, easy to carry around.
Material
18/8 pro-grade, rust-resistant stainless steel. I don’t put anything else but water in it, but it always tastes pure and fresh, nothing funny in the bottle. No flavor transfer from the cleaning products or anything. The lids are BPA-free plastic.
Durability
Hydro Flask has a reputation for durability. Well, it didn’t take long to get a dent. But it’s very small, hardly visible as the image tries to show, and only one after almost 2 years of everyday use.
And: no scratches! I carry it around wherever I go, so it has plenty of opportunities to get dropped – which indeed happened more times I care to count – and it still looks like new.
So, it might be strong to say it’s “practically indestructible”, but I do believe this is a very sturdy water bottle.
Insulation
TempShield™ double wall vacuum insulation. Keeps drinks cold up to 24 hours, and hot up to 12 hours. To be honest, I’ve never kept my drink in it for up to 24 hours (it’s my everyday bottle, I keep refilling), but I can tell you, if I put cold water in it, I drink cold water hours later too. Especially if I add some ice cubes as well. I haven’t tried with anything warm yet, but I trust their claim about the 12 hours.
Mouth opening
Standard mouth. It has plenty of room for loading ice or using a bottle brush.
Lid type
I didn’t hear good things about the Sport Cap (rumor has it it’s not leakproof), so I bought my bottle with an original Hydro Flask Standard Mouth Flex Straw cap. Frankly, I didn’t like it. Even though it offered Honeycomb Insulation for maximum temperature retention, I just couldn’t get used to the sipping. I wanted bigger gulps. (And it happened that I forgot it was a straw lid, lifted the bottle to drink, and spilled water all over through the tiny hole on the cap…) The Flex Cap didn’t seem to be very convenient, and their Chug Lid was for the wide-mouth bottles.
I understand if hardcore Hydro Flask fans hate me for my solution. It’s not an official Hydro Flask accessory after all, but it does the job perfectly for me:

Closure mechanism
Twist to open. Twist to close. Easy. Also, it ensures a tight seal every time, preventing leaks even when just jostled in my tote or a backpack.
Leakproof
When closed. (Not all lids are proven to be 100% leakproof though.)
Sweatproof
Yes, even with ice in it, it doesn’t sweat. Thanks to the TempShield™ that prevents condensation.
Grip and texture
The slim design gives a really good grip, and so is the powder coat. To me personally, it felt a little bit weird to touch the surface layer at first, it feels a bit like sand, but now I know from experience that it helps a lot to hold my bottle steady even with a sweaty palm. Win.

Color options
Multiple. I sport a “Laguna” but there are 10+ different, vibrant colors available.
Carrying handle
It’s a small yet impactful detail of a water bottle. It makes it easy to grab and go. The Hydro Flask has it on the lids, not on the bottle. They also offer packable bottle slings as an accessory.
Cupholder compatibility
The base diameter of the bottle is ‎2.8 inches. It fits in the standard car-size cup holders (which range from 2.5 inches to 3.5 inches in diameter), excluding the smallest cup holders in some vehicles.
Ease of cleaning
The standard mouth allows easy cleaning with a bottle brush, however, I usually just use cleaning tablets which makes it a breeze. The Sport Cap and Flex Straw cap might need a special brush for thorough cleaning.
Dishwasher
It’s supposed to be dishwasher safe, but I personalized mine with a sticker, so I never put the bottle in the machine. I washed the cap once or twice on the top rack, and it was fine.

Microwave
No. Just no. (Don’t put it on the stove or in the oven either.)
Fridge
The fridge would be OK, but don’t put it in the freezer.
Carbonated drinks

Special features
Fits with most backcountry water filters. (I have not tested this yet.)
Price range
It starts around $40 and the price goes up with the accessories of your choice. I paid around $60 at the end for the bottle with a flex straw cap and a protective silicone boot. It is worth every $ if you ask me.
